These beautiful babies will be 8 weeks old on Friday the 9th Jan. Their Mammy was brought into The Animal Hospital as a stray and it was soon discovered that she was heavily pregnant. One of our nurses took her home for a few weeks to let her have her babies. They are now away from Mammy and well used to being played with and handled. They are still too young to start the vaccine course but are ready for a forever home of their own. They have been vet checked and wormed. The top kitten tabby/white colour is a male and the black and white kitten is a female. If you would like to come and meet them please contact the clinic on 01-4515930.

This is Jared our October pet of the month. He is a 2 year old domestic short hair cat. August bank holiday weekend his owner was very worried as Jared did not come home during the day which was unusual for him. When he finally returned, she was shocked to find that his jaw was sideways with all the skin hanging off his lower jaw. His left eye was bulged out and damaged. He seemed to have no marks on his body and his mobility was fine. Assuming he was in a road traffic accident, she rushed him straight to the emergency clinic.

Jared had broken his jaw and badly damaged his left eye. Some wiring had to be placed in his jaw and his skin stitched back in place. He was also sent to see an eye specialist. He slowly became able to eat again unaided after he had many procedures to correct his jaw area. He also had a lot of work done at the eye specialist to try and save his eye. Eventually this had to be removed, but with one good eye he will cope well!

The above picture was taken just last week. He is doing really well and is now back to going out and about on his adventures. His owner hopes she will never find him like that again. He now had a very shiny reflective collar to help cars see him in the night.

Jared is glad his vet trips are over with, we are just glad this accident had a happy ending!

This is Jack. He is a 6 year old black Labrador Retriever. He came to the Animal Hospital very off form, lethargic and not eating. This was very unusual for Jack, as he was normally a very active dog that loved his food!

Initial tests could not tell us what was happening with Jack. We had to place him on a drip as he started to be sick , lose weight and become very dehydrated. Eventually as Jack was getting no better with medication, it was decided it was best to get an xray and see if there was any tumours or obstructions present.

On this xray, we could see a suspicious area, but again it was unclear exactly what this could be. It was decided to bring Jack in for a general aneasthetic and have a look. We were amazed to find a very large bouncing rubber ball stuck in the duodenum (which is a short portion of the small intestine connecting it to the stomach). No wonder he wasnt feeling very well!!

Jack remained in a critical condition at The Animal Hospital for several days after the surgery. With great care and attention from all the nurses, he eventually went home and was slowly reintroduced back to his normal diet (without the ball!!).

We are proud to say he is doing great and we hope to never see him again for any simular problems. We hope he has learnt his lesson! He is our August Pet of the Month.

Mac is a lovable 10 year old crossbreed dog. His owner noticed that he was finding it difficult to pass faeces and were worried that there was something serious wrong. After an examination with one of our Veterinary surgeons, Mr Doherty, he was quickly diagnosed with a perineal hernia, which can be a very uncomfortable condition. He was immediately admitted to The Animal Hospital for further treatment.

Mac had to have multiple enemas to clear his blockage before a surgery could be attempted on the problem area. He quickly grew popular with the nurses here and his little face and wagging tail, never failed to put a smile on our faces.

After a successful surgery last week, Mac is recovering very well. He will be back for a final check over next week and once the vet is happy with his progress , his life can return to normal. He is awarded April Pet of the Month.

Having a Wednesday off can sometimes mean you miss one or two interesting cases that come in either Tuesday evening or on Wednesday. So you can imagine my surprise when I came into work this morning and was greeted by ………

Inpatient in Question!

Poor Nettle was brought in by her owner Mrs Gray after she was attacked by a dog. She had a very serious wound on her side that needed stitching. She was suffering from shock but Mary and Christine looked after her very well and she had a comfortable night.

This morning she was taking out so Amy and Lorraine could re-examine her wound and she if she was standing properly.

We will be keeping a close eye on Nettle over the course of the day, and all going well she will be going home this afternoon.

We will keep you up to date with Nettles progress. Fingers crossed she will keep getting better and better!
